Staff & Volunteer FAQ

What is “Recovery Happens Together”?

Recovery Happens Together is a public awareness campaign from Peer Washington that highlights who we are, what we do, and the impact of peer support. Throughout the campaign, we'll be sharing information about our mission, services, values, and the communities we serve. The campaign celebrates the power of connection and reminds people that they don't have to face life's challenges alone.

Why are we doing this campaign?

We want more people to understand what Peer Washington does and how peer support changes lives. Many people have heard of Peer Washington but don't know about our services or how to access them. This campaign is an opportunity to raise awareness, celebrate our LGBTQ+ roots during Pride Month, and invite more people to find support, connection, and hope.

What does “Recovery Happens Together” mean?

The phrase reflects a simple truth: healing, growth, and recovery are often strengthened through relationships and community. Peer support is built on shared experience. When people feel understood and connected, they're often better able to navigate life's challenges.

Who does Peer Washington serve?

Peer Washington was founded by members of Washington's LGBTQ+ community and remains deeply committed to serving LGBTQ+ individuals. At the same time, we welcome anyone seeking peer emotional support or development services, including people impacted by addiction, mental health challenges, HIV/AIDS, other chronic illnesses, and life transitions. Our doors are open to everyone who can benefit from our services.

What is peer support?

Peer support is support provided by people with lived experience who use that experience to encourage, empower, and walk alongside others. It is based on mutual respect, understanding, and the belief that people can learn and grow through shared experiences.

Is this campaign only about Pride Month?

No. While we're proud to launch it during Pride Month and celebrate our LGBTQ+ roots, the campaign is ultimately about Peer Washington's mission, values, services, and the power of peer support year-round.
